Site Surveys

The California State Water Resources Control Board, the County Health Department or the local water jurisdiction will send a notice of requirement to you to conduct a survey of your water supply system. The purpose of this is to ensure the safety and integrity of your water supply systems.

Preparation and Written Proposal

An initial on-site meeting is required to provide an accurately written proposal for the professional services required to obtain your compliance with the state. This inspection is initiated by an experienced and licensed AWWA Certified Cross Connection Control Specialist. An inspection date and time will be prearranged with the customer who then coordinates the necessary personnel with the proper knowledge, to escort the Specialists and his team through the exterior and interior of the facility or campus. At this time, the Specialist will request information to become familiar with the entire water distribution systems. The purpose of this inspection is to become familiar with the facility and to ensures that any questions that arise concerning the water distribution system can be answered accurately and expeditiously. Depending on the size of your facility or campus this could take several hours. Prior to the meeting any plumbing plans or irrigation plans should be emailed to the Specialist for review.

Once this process is complete you will receive a written proposal within 3-5 business days.

Site Specific Survey

Once the proposal is executed, we will schedule the date and time for the survey to begin. During the inspection, the water supplies will be located along with any auxiliary water supplies. A review of any contaminants will be evaluated to determine the degree of hazard as it relates to the water systems. The specialist will review the equipment that may require internal backflow protection such as but not limited to boilers, cooling towers, chemical dispensers, laboratory equipment, clean room equipment, fire sprinkler systems, irrigation systems, recycled water, etc. If a health hazard to the potable water system is identified, it will be brought to your immediate attention during the survey along with a follow-up written documentation outlining the hazard, recommendations, and photos to make the necessary corrections along with the Uniform Plumbing Code and Cross Connection Control Policy Handbook 7.1.24

Documentation

Once the survey is complete, a detailed report including photos will be prepared and submitted to you, the customer. The report includes details on water systems, uses which include equipment, existing and potential cross-connections, the degree of hazard of any deficiencies on site, and existing backflow prevention assemblies. Other types of potential hazards or deficiencies will also be identified, all of which will have reference to the sections and codes in the California Uniform Plumbing Code, Chapter 6 and the Cross Connection Control Policy Handbook. A survey report will be provided to the customer and will also be submitted to the state agency, county or water purveyor that provided the letter of requirement.
